White Trash Cake Pops
For Christmas I got a cake pop maker. I was pretty excited. I am not crafty whatsoever, but that does not stop me from trying every once in awhile. I usually wait for about the time it takes to make me forget how awful I was at the last craft I tried. Kind of like how we all forget how painful childbirth is and have more kids.
So when I unwrapped this cake pop maker I envisioned beautiful delectable master pieces. Ones that people would ooh and awe at and think I am marvelous and amazing. What actually happened was the complete opposite which was definitely to be expected with me being in charge.
I wanted to make these with my girls for New Years. Shout and I went to the store to get the supplies at about 6:00 pm. There was no way I was going to go to that huge grocery store that we all know the name of on New Years Eve so we went to a tiny local one. The options were pretty slim and we ended up with chocolate chips to melt, some crushed almonds, one can of white frosting, flower sprinkles and two different flavored cake mixes. I knew at home that I had some old oreos that perhaps were still edible that we could crush, then I later found in the cupboard some even older reeses pieces. Is anyones mouth watering yet? Also sucker sticks were no where in site at the small store. No problem we would cut shish kebab sticks in half. Perfect! I read that to do this properly you needed styrofoam to stick the completed pops in. luckily I found some in a package we received in the mail. Again totally perfect.
I set up all the toppings up and thought I was pretty gosh darn clever for using food coloring to make 2 additional colors, orange and pink. It looked all pretty and my kids were bursting with excitement. I have got to say. I loved doing this with them. It was the best way to ring in the new year. It really did not matter that they did not turn out picture perfect and that they did not stay at the top of the sticks and were a pretty gooey mess. They were unique just like each one of my kids, who had a fantastic time making them.
We will be doing this again and again and not changing a thing, well maybe leaving out the stale oreos and old reeses peeses. Here is a picture of our completed white trash cake pops in all of there imperfect glory.
I may not be Martha Stewart or Bakerella but sometimes I think it is better to be Living The Scream.
Gardner Village Ride To A Witch
My family and I have been visiting Gardner Village for quite some time. It is quaint and festive with adorable little shops, whats not to like? During the Halloween season Gardner Village transforms into a witchy wonderland and we don’t like to miss it. So we loaded up the girls in their Halloween costumes and went a few days ago.
This year Gardner village contacted me to write a review of our experience on Ride to a Witch. They provided my family tickets and we were so excited to try it.
I have to say the tickets for ride to a witch were awesome. They were plastic cockroaches. My girls loved holding them while we waited for our turn.
We got on a trailer with hay and road to the witches secret lair.It was a beautiful day.
We then made our rounds looking at everything. Shout loved looking at the witch’s brew.
One witch even taught my girls how to disco dance. They loved it!
After we had seen everything we went on the trailer again and were taken back the beginning. where we enjoyed the rest of the fun Gardner village had to offer. The witch sculptures everywhere were so much fun to look out. My girls really enjoyed themselves. It was a fun family Halloween activity. The Ride to a Witch is only open on these certain days.
Word to the wise, it was INCREDIBLY crowded and quite tricky to get out of the parking lot. plan to get there early and hunt for a close parking space, that will help a lot.
*Gardner village provided me free tickets for this review, all Witch filled opinions are my own.
Tillamook Loaf Love Tour
We are cheese lovers over at our house for sure. Squeal asks for it all the time and my girls love it on everything we eat. I have really liked Tillamook cheese for a while so I was excited to be able to attend a bloggers event while they had been in Utah for their Loaf Love Tour.
Their was face painting and a bouncy house and cheese galore! I think the umpire’s favorite part was checking out the vintage VW Tillamook Cars. My Favorite was posing with Loafy!! Shout loved getting a big cupcake painted on her face.
There was even a grilled cheese contest. The competition was fierce. we made ours with turkey, asparagus, cheese (ofcourse) and bacon and titled it. “Can you a-spare us some cheese” Pretty corny huh? Or cheesey in this case.
We actually ended up winning the family team effort award. I won some cute Tillamook cheese swag and thought It would be fun to share! I am giving one reader a Loaf Love Tour T- Shirt, two Tillamook cow mini stuffed animals, five cow pens, and three dollar off coupons. To enter please leave me a comment. The giveaway will end Wednesday September 14th at 11:59 pm.
Also you have to check out the Tillamook App on facebook. You get to make a grilled cheese with your picture on it. Here’s mine. Sorry it’s so small. I thought it was funny and who wouldn’t want to see there face on grilled cheese sandwich?
*I was not obligated to write about this event or give anything away i just thought it would be fun. All opinions are my own.
Heelys
A few years ago Shriek received pair of Heelys for Christmas. She worked on them very hard mastering them, and loved every minute of it. Lets now focus on current day. She grew out of her 1st pair and gave them to shout and has gotten another pair and lets just say she rocks! She can turn and go in circles. She is my Heelys hero.
I love things that I can do with my Kiddos so when I had a chance to get a pair of Heelys in my size I was so thrilled. Seriously how cool would my kid’s think I was if I was wheeling around in Heelys? (I mean for now. I know the thinking I am cool part is going to be short lived)
I chose Black and purple heelys and they are super cute, awesome quality and are very comfortable. When I first tried them on I was super nervous and Shriek could literally do circles around me. But little by little I was actually doing it. After I got over the initial fear of having wheels on my feet I was surprised at how easy it was. I still have a ways to go but I am enjoying the practice part of it.
The best part was when Shout, Shriek, and I got on our Heelys. We went outside and Shriek began to give us a crash course. It was such a sweet moment. the three of us learning things from each other. This was why I had wanted them in the first place. I loved watching Shout holding Shriek to keep her steady.
We had the best time. I can’t wait to keep trying and get better and better. maybe I’ll even be better than Shriek one day! I doubt it.
Some times I feel so old and fuddy duddy watching my kid’s outside having fun. Now that I have my own pair of Heelys it includes me in the fun and also gets me off of my tush and doing something active.
I love that Heelys has a skating 101 page on their website. That helps you with the ins and outs. They also have a lot of great safety info.
Heelys is throwing a Labor Day/Back-to-School special!! Between Sept 2-Sept 5, Buy one pair of Heelys, get the second pair for only $30!
They are seriously fun for the family and created lots of laughter. Even though I knew most of the laughter was aimed at me because I am super super slow.
* I received a pair of Heelys through buisness2blogger to facilitate this review. All opinions are my own.
Humerous Poems for Kids
*Photo: Creative commons Flickr
You know that saying it’s never to early to teach your kids a classic, but slightly irreverent poem or saying? Yeah neither do, I but apparently the umpire lives by those words of wisdom and taught our girls the entire Bean’s Bean’s limerick during dinner the other day. I now am pretty sure It will be ingrained in their brains for a lifetime and will never be able to be undone.
Ironically it was all brought on by us having baked beans for dinner, go figure. which I assure you will never happen again.
Now I know you are probably aware of what humorous poem for kids I am talking about but I will still type it out for good measure
“Beans Beans the Magical fruit the more you eat the more you toot the more you toot the better you feel so lets have beans for every meal”
I was very thankful Wikipedia has a whole page dedicated to this poem so I could get it just right. That website never disappoints.
Never have I seen my girls so entertained, their snickers and giggles could not be overcome as they continued to sing “The bean” poem in every style possible. there was Country, Reggae, Rap, and my favorite the Christmas rendition where the poem was sang to the tune of Jingle Bells. Too bad I did not get out my camera we would have had a Viral you tube sensation for sure.
The moral of this story is do not invite my family over to dinner at your house if you are serving beans.
What funny poems or saying do your kid’s love to repeat over and over again?
